Overview

About this programme

This intermediate course focuses on the specialized logistics required to support offshore oil and gas operations, including drilling rigs, production platforms, and floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels. Participants will learn to manage supply bases, coordinate crew and cargo transport by vessel and helicopter, and ensure just-in-time delivery to offshore assets.

Who Should Attend:

  • Offshore Logistics Coordinators

  • Supply Base Managers

  • Marine and Helicopter Operations Planners

  • Drilling and Production Support Staff

Learning outcomes

What you'll walk away with

  • Manage supply base operations for offshore logistics support.

  • Coordinate crew changes and cargo transport by vessel and helicopter.

  • Plan and optimize platform supply vessel (PSV) schedules and backloading.

  • Implement marine safety and emergency response procedures.

Course modules

What we cover, module by module

Module 1: Offshore Logistics Ecosystem

  • Key assets: drilling rigs, production platforms, FPSOs, and floating facilities.

  • Supply bases: onshore hubs for storage, maintenance, and dispatch.

  • Transport modes: platform supply vessels (PSVs), crew boats, helicopters, and anchor handlers.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Map the logistics network for an offshore field development, including supply base, vessel routes, and offshore installations.

Module 2: Supply Base Operations and Inventory Management

  • Supply base layout: warehousing, pipe yards, deck storage, and loading areas.

  • Inventory management for drilling and production consumables.

  • Picking, packing, and dispatch for offshore delivery.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Design a supply base layout for an offshore drilling campaign, including storage areas, loading quays, and inventory management processes.

Module 3: Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) Management

  • Types of PSVs and their cargo capacities (deck cargo, bulk, liquid mud, fuel, water).

  • Voyage planning: load consolidation, backloading, and just-in-time delivery.

  • Dynamic positioning (DP) and vessel interface with offshore installations.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Develop a PSV load plan for a drilling rig, including deck cargo, bulk products, and backloading of waste and empty containers.

Module 4: Helicopter Logistics and Crew Change Management

  • Helicopter types and offshore landing facilities.

  • Crew change scheduling: balancing operational needs, weather, and fatigue management.

  • Passenger and baggage handling, dangerous goods by air.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Plan a crew change schedule for a remote offshore platform for a 14-day rotation, including helicopter capacity, weather contingencies, and passenger manifests.

Module 5: Marine Coordination, Safety, and Emergency Response

  • Vessel tracking, weather monitoring, and communication protocols.

  • Emergency response: man overboard, medevac, and spill response.

  • Regulatory compliance: ISM Code, SOLAS, and offshore specific regulations.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Simulate an emergency response for a PSV engine failure during cargo transfer to an offshore platform, including communication, tug deployment, and medevac coordination.
