About this programme

This intermediate course provides specialized training on Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) for displaced populations. Participants will learn to establish, manage, and coordinate camps and camp-like settings, ensuring safe, dignified, and habitable living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.

Module 1: CCCM Fundamentals and Camp Establishment

  • Types of displacement sites: planned camps, collective centers, self-settled, and transit centers.

  • Site selection criteria and camp establishment procedures.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Analyze the suitability of three potential camp sites based on criteria including safety, water access, land tenure, and proximity to services.

Module 2: Site Planning and Infrastructure

  • Camp layout principles: spacing, circulation, and zoning.

  • Infrastructure standards: shelter, WASH, health, education, and communal facilities.

  • Accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Design a camp layout for 5,000 people, including shelter blocks, WASH facilities, health post, school, distribution points, and circulation roads.

Module 3: Camp Governance and Community Participation

  • Establishing camp governance structures: site committees, community leaders, and focal points.

  • Community participation mechanisms: meetings, representation, and feedback systems.

  • Camp population registration and documentation.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Develop a camp governance and participation plan, including the formation of a camp committee, representation guidelines, and a community feedback mechanism.

Module 4: Multi-Sectoral Coordination and Service Delivery

  • Coordinating with sector leads: shelter, WASH, health, nutrition, protection, and education.

  • Camp service mapping and gap analysis.

  • Information management for CCCM: population data, service tracking, and incident reporting.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Conduct a service gap analysis for a camp, identify missing or under-resourced services, and develop a coordination plan to address gaps.

Module 5: Camp Closure and Durable Solutions

  • The transition from emergency to durable solutions: return, local integration, and resettlement.

  • Camp closure processes: consultation, phased closure, and asset transfer.

  • Post-closure monitoring and community follow-up.

  • Case Study/Hands-on Exercise: Develop a camp closure plan for a camp transitioning to durable solutions, including consultation with displaced populations, service phase-down, and asset handover.
